UBIs (Useless Bits of Information)

There are certain things that one accumulates in life through their journeys. Some may be active collections, such as snow globes, beer steins, postage stamps, or plasticized people parts. Others are much more passive, i.e. the family experience, the bad cheese tour, or like myself, Useless Bits of Information. You might only ever need to know these things if you are confronted by a troll on a bridge and he wants to know the medical name for an extra nipple… It’s a supernumerary nipple, now you know. Here are a few more things that you might not have known:

1. The other side of your elbow is called your antecubital fossa, or as I like to call it, The Crelbow.

2. Qa is a word, it was an ancient Babylonian measurement unit.

3. Being ambidextrous literally means “possessing two right hands,” because no one wants to be ambisinister.

4. The pretzel was originally used as a teaching method by monks and was called pretiola meaning little reward in Latin.

5. Coffee was discovered to have its wonderful effects and gained popularity after an Arabian goat- herder found his goats to dance after eating from a particular tree.

6. Having an extra finger or toe is called polydactylism.

7. You can wash your hands with the bark of a Slippery Elm, as it both lathers and is antiseptic OR you can mix it into a solution and use it as an enema OR instead of putting it in your butt, you can drink it to soothe a cough.

8. Thor’s Hammer was named Mjoollnir, which means the Devastator or the Destroyer.

9. If you cough more than 12 times in a row, your chances of spontaneous ejaculation increase 300 percent. I made that one up.

10. You cannot touch your elbows behind your back, although this works great with the ladies during happy hour.

There are a tonne more of these UBIs, if I had gone more etymologically. So, now you know. Knowledge is half the battle. Skål
