God and Physics

It’s curious that the first people on this planet attributed what they saw in their everyday environment to various gods, as they didn’t have the science or the nomenclature to aptly name it. The Scandinavians had Odin, as chief justice and arbitrator, Thor ruled the skies and weather. Frig and Freya presided over war and nature, and Loki just fucked shit up. There are corollaries in every early faith. As societies progressed and migrated they adopted each others faiths or mulled them together in appropriate amalgamate that suited them.

Early Tribes of Israel, as they traveled would simply pick up the religion of the region. Most commonly the name of the deity or deities ruling the territory ended in or had “El” somewhere in the title and signified a god. Michael means “who is like God.” Raphael means “healed by God.” Bethlehem means “house of God.” And it is through Christian and Judaic texts that we learn of man’s changing relationship with his creator. In the beginning, Adam walked in the garden with God. Then God began sending angels to do his bidding. Then he had to send a physical emissary in the form of his son.

Recently, there has been an even greater divource from the church and organized religion completely by the greater society. Technological and medical advancements have removed the shroud that was once controlled by religion. We are now able to create life in a laboratory. Not just in the form of in vitro fertilization, but actually take chemicals and energies and create single cell organisms. Life is no longer in the realm of the mystical.

In this world, I ask, where does one find God? What is God? How can one be in communion with an invisible super being when the super powers hailed to be possessed solely by them are trumped daily?

I am of the opinion that there are very physical laws that govern the galaxy. There are elements and they can be combined to form compounds that create a life. However, there is no matter ever lost nor gained. And that a life is just a viable translation of Conservation of Energy. In that, energy cannot be created nor destroyed, only transferred. Whereas, the potential energy that resides in a sperm and egg create a fetus, that fetus is birthed, lives, and dies, but the energy is transferred. Where does that go? Is that just an idea of a soul? More to come. I’m a bit burned and confused here. Skål.
